Dr. Lily GutnikUAB Division of Breast & Endocrine Surgery Assistant Professor and Global Surgery Associate Vice Chair Lily Gutnik M.D., MPH, has been selected for membership in the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO)’s international committee.

From the beginning of her medical career, Gutnik has focused on improving global surgery equity. She completed her medical degree with a focus on international health, in a combined program between Ben Gurion University and Columbia University. Gutnik previously served as a Fulbright and Fogarty Fellow in Lilongwe, Malawi, where she established and evaluated the efficacy of Malawi's first breast cancer screening initiative.

As a practicing surgeon-scientist, Gutnik has been involved in numerous global surgery equity organizations.

"My ultimate goal has always been to expand access to cancer screening methods in low-resource countries. I am excited to evaluate research initiatives from all around the world becoming a member of SSO's international committee," said Gutnik.
