Drs. Abraham, Smithson, Hua, and LucyThe UAB General Surgery Residency Program has named its administrative and education chiefs for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Administrative Chief Residents

Peter Abraham, M.D., and Mary Smithson, M.D., M.S., will serve as administrative chief residents. In their roles, Abraham and Smithson will support the residency by assisting with schedule creation and review and making coverage plans to ensure all services are fully staffed.

Education Chief Residents

Clara Hua, M.D., and Adam Lucy, M.D., MSHQS, have been chosen as the next education chief residents. In the academic year, they will organize teams to lead weekly education conferences, in addition to refining current educational offerings timely and assisting in the implementation of new educational programming for residents.

All chief residents serve as representatives of the training program and advocates of their peers in policy and guidelines discussions related to residents.

“Each of our new chief residents embodies the qualities we hope to see and cultivate in our program,” says General Surgery Residency Program Director Britney Corey, M.D., MACM. “I’m excited to see what they accomplish in their new roles and to witness the unique imprint they leave on the general surgery residency for years to come.”
