Dr. James George, Transplant Immunology, Surgery

UAB's multidisciplinary Transplant Immunology Program is home to a variety of clinical and basic science researchers focused on the regulation of immune responses and tolerance in the transplant patient population.

Our researchers are working to identify the mechanisms associated with inducing and abrogating immunological tolerance in order to develop novel therapies for patients, such as preventing graft rejection, augmenting tumor immunity, treating vascular disease and regulating T cell presence.

Some of our current studies also include investigating the clinical etiologies of kidney allograft failure, the genomics of early and late allograft injury, immune monitoring after depletional induction therapies and major clinical interventional immunosuppression trials sponsored by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
