|Legendary Beatles Recording Engineer Ken Scott to visit UAB|
Ken Scott, legendary recording engineer of the Beatles White Album, will present "From Abbey Road to Ziggy Stardust” on Monday, March 5th, 2012 at 7:30 pm in the Hulsey Recital Hall. This lecture is part of the Jemison Visiting Professorship in the Humanities and is presented by the UAB College of Arts and Sciences and the UAB Department of Music. Admission is free and open to the public. In his presentation, Ken Scott will discuss his career working with the Beatles and other rock icons such as the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Elton John, David Bowie, Supertramp, Devo, Missing Persons, Level 42 and others.
Accompanying Scott will be music producer Bobby Owsinski, the author of 16 music technology books, including The Recording Engineer's Handbook. Owsinski and Scott are currently preparing a book together documenting Ken Scott's life as an engineer and producer. The book, Abbey Road to Ziggy Stardust is set to release this summer.
During their two-day visit, Scott and Owsinski will work with the UAB recording engineering class and interns at Audiostate 55 Recording Studios, the UAB Computer Music Ensemble, and with other UAB music technology students. Drs. Henry Panion and Scott Phillips, co-directors of the UAB music technology program, believe this is a rare and unique opportunity for students to hear from and work closely with such legends of the recording industry.
Established in 1993, the UAB Music Technology program was one of the first accredited degree-granting programs of its kind to be offered in the country and is the only program in the state that offers a degree concentration in music technology.
