With your help, the UAB School of Nursing will house a historically significant exhibit of UAB’s Florence Nightingale Letters dating from 1853 to 1893. This exhibit will provide a unique and interactive learning environment for our students, faculty and the community. In correlation with strategic scholarly activities, the exhibit will maximize the many learning opportunities made possible through understanding the importance of these letters to nursing, public health and healthcare administration.

You can be part of this exciting endeavor through various naming opportunities, including honoring a loved one. Together we can work to improve the quality of nursing education in Alabama and provide faculty and students with tools needed to explore the linkage between current practice and what Miss Nightingale proposed as evidence-based practice over 100 years ago.

This project would be a true “Living Legacy” for all individuals touched by nursing and health care.

The Exhibit
• Replicas of letters written by Florence Nightingale with narrative
• Interactive learning modules made possible through scholarly activities

The Scholarly Activities
• A learning strategy for faculty and student leadership development
• Projects that explore the linkage between current practice and evidence-based
practice as it relates to quality care nursing proposed by Miss Nightingale over
100 years ago
• Production and dissemination of scholarly works and publications specifically
about the UAB Nightingale Collection
• Inter-professional historical research related to health care
• Historical and investigative research endeavors focusing on the similarities of nursing
during the 1800s and present day
• Partnership with Alabama Public Television to bring the exhibit and letters to a
wider audience and to incorporate it into K-12 education so more children become
interested in nursing
• Additional teaching opportunities will arise as the exhibit takes form Nightingale and 1 print of a painting at the Reynolds Historical Library
