Donna Dunn receives OWH Heart of Gold award

Dunn DonnaDonna Dunn, PhD, CNM, FNP-BC, Assistant Professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing has been selected to receive the Heart of Gold award from the Alabama Office of Women's Health (OWH).

The Heart of Gold award was created in memory of Mozzelle Thomas, the mother of the current director of Alabama Office of Women's Health, Jessica Hardy. Each year the organization selects an individual in the health care field who has demonstrated the true meaning of a giving, loving, and community oriented heart.

Dunn earned her post-MSN certificate and PhD from the UAB School of Nursing. She has been a certified nurse-midwife for 13 years and a family nurse practitioner for 11 years. Her practice initiatives focus on providing prenatal care to women in the high-risk obstetrics clinic at UAB. Dunn's program of research is focused on decreasing the burden of high-risk obstetrical conditions on patients and the community. She also is coordinator of the women's health nurse practitioner specialty track in the UAB School of Nursing.

"I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the honor of being awarded the Heart of Gold Award. I couldn't do the service that I do without the leadership and opportunities afforded me by the Alabama Office of Women's Health," said Dunn.

The Office of Women's Health (OWH) was created by Alabama Legislature Act 2002-141 to be an advocate for women's health issues.
