University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing Assistant Professor Elizabeth Sharpe, DNP, RN, NRP, NNP-BC, VA-BC, has been reelected as a director at large to the National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) Board of Directors.

Sharpe, who was initially elected to the Board in 2014, began serving her second two-year term at the 32nd Annual Educational Conference October 26-29 in Palm Springs, California, and will serve through 2018.

NANN is the professional organization that represents and serves the community of nursing professionals who care for newborn infants born with a variety of health challenges. These include prematurity, birth defects, infection, cardiac malformations and surgical problems.

“The National Association of Neonatal Nurses is the voice of neonatal nursing with more than 7,300 members and is recognized around the world,” Sharpe said. “Its membership includes neonatal nurses, advanced nurse practitioners, managers and clinical nurse specialists from the United States and other nations.

“NANN provides resources for its members for education, research, and advocacy and represents nursing professionals involved in caring for neonates and their families. It is a privilege to represent the UAB School of Nursing and our members in the neonatal community at the national level.”
