Clinical Research Management Options

 

Clinical Research Management (CRM) is a rapidly growing discipline, which employs nurses and other healthcare professionals to support, maintain and grow the clinical research enterprise.

  • CRM positions are expected to grow 20% over the next decade
  • CRMs require in-depth knowledge and understanding of a broad range of complex clinical research issues related to the planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical research studies
  • CRM positions include: study coordinators, project managers, research nurse managers, monitors and program administrators
  • CRM employers include: Research sites in academic medical centers, private practice, pharmaceutical and biotech industry, government agencies and contract research operations
  • R&D of new medical entities are expanding to meet the needs of aging populations
  • Advances in molecular studies including genomics, nanotechnology and stem-cell research guarantees new  potential clinical trials
  • Opportunities for international research activities are increasing

PLEASE NOTE:    Although not an admission requirement, OSHA training on Bloodborne Pathogens and TB Occupational Health, hepatitis B vaccination, CPR certification, and current RN licensure in the state in which the student will engage in clinical practice are required prior to enrolling in the teaching practicum course at the UAB School of Nursing.  (See attached information)

Also, medical clearance is required prior to registration. (download form at http://main.uab.edu/Sites/students/student-health-services/ )
