James Harris, DSN, APRN-BC, MBA, CNL, FAAN Deputy Chief Nursing Officer at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, DC served as the School of Nursing’s inaugural University Day guest and speaker on September 24, 2009. Dr. Harris presented Practice and Academic Partnership: The Clinical Nurse Leader to an audience of students, faculty and community professionals. During the presentation, Dr. Harris shared about his work with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) project and innovative practice outcomes by CNLs employed at Veterans Affairs Medical Centers across the country.

Ed O’Neil, PhD, MPA, FAAN, is a Professor and Director of the Center for Health Professions at the University of California, San Francisco spoke at the Lister Hill Center for Health Policy lecture series on April 3, 2009. Dr. O’Neil presented Creating New Models of Primary Care, which explored practice paradigm shifts in nursing, medicine, dentistry, and academic health centers in the face of a decreasing supply of primary care physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.
