Dr. Semes served as the principal author for AOA's Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG), "Care of the patient with ocular surface disorders" (third edition in completed 2010); panel member for CPG, "Care of the patient with retinal detachment and related peripheral retinal disease." He has authored of over 125 scientific articles and is named as one of the 2000 outstanding intellectuals of the 21st century. He is the founding member of the Optometric Glaucoma Society where he currently serves as chair of the Nominating Committee, member of the Program Committee and on the Executive Board. He is also founding Fellow of the Optometric Retina Society where he currently serves as Vice President.
