The University of Alabama at Birmingham respects the opinions of its employees about working conditions, ways and means of getting jobs done better, and other matters of employee interest. From time to time, however, the University, like any other organization, has to make decisions without prior consultation with its employees. The University must, therefore, maintain exclusive discretion to exercise the customary functions of management including, but not limited to, the discretion to select, hire, promote, suspend, dismiss, assign, supervise, and discipline employees; to determine the size, organizational structure and composition of the work force; to establish, change and/or abolish policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; to determine and modify job descriptions and job classifications; and to assign duties to employees in accordance with the needs and requirements determined by the University.
