PROCEDURE

OIRB Responsibilities

Senior Staff:

  • Determines the deadline and meeting dates in the fall of the year for the upcoming year and the dates are posted on the IRB web site.

Clerical Staff:

  • Prepares agenda letter with review assignments and adds to the letter any additional materials that are ready for convened IRB review.

Administrative Staff:

  • Logs all materials received for convened IRB review in log book;
  • Enters all materials (i.e., initial, continuing, final, deferrals, amendments) scheduled for convened IRB review into the OIRB database;
  • Equitably splits and assigns materials received at each deadline between the two successive IRB meetings according to the date of receipt. Accommodations are made by the staff for all related protocols to be reviewed at the same meeting;
  • Generates a list of items for convened IRB review from the OIRB database in alphabetical order by PI name;
  • Assigns other materials to complete the agenda for the next convened IRB review:
    • Minor amendments;
    • Minutes from previous meetings;
    • Reportable problems;
    • Reports from the Compliance Subcommittee;
    • Monitoring reports;
    • Expedited/exempt review report;
    • IRB educational materials or updates.
  • Reviews the protocols to ensure that there is no conflicting interest in the assignment of protocols to Primary Review Teams (e.g., an IRB member is not assigned his(er) protocol for primary review);
  • Assigns materials to Primary Review Teams.
