UAB PREP Scholar’s Program:
Something to Think About

What: A unique, 1-2 year training opportunity for students seeking graduate degrees in biomedical or behavioral science

Who: For students who received their baccalaureate (4-year) degree in the past three years and who are not currently enrolled in graduate school

Where: At the University of Alabama of at Birmingham (UAB), the only university in Alabama classified as “doctoral – very research intensive”

When: Program starts June 1, 2012; application deadline is February 1, 2012

Why: Instruction, practice and mentoring in research, academic writing, math and test-taking can provide the extra experience students need to gain acceptance into science programs in leading graduate schools

Outcomes: During the training period students receive a $21,000 stipend, plus health insurance and tuition for up to 10 credit hours of academic instruction. Based on an individual development plan, students are paired with faculty for hands-on research projects.

Details: 75% of our PREP students have entered distinguished graduate programs in a biomedical sciences research field, including UAB, Emory, Vanderbilt, the University of Iowa, the University of Arizona, and Penn State University
