Courses, research, and clinical training are directed by faculty psychologists and other professionals from the UAB Department of Psychology and also from other UAB departments and divisions, the VA Medical Center, private health facilities, and community practices. Therefore, students have access to a variety of potential role models. Department The Department of Psychology has a solid history of growth and accomplishment. The National Science Foundation (NSF) ranks this UAB department in the top 100 of universities nationally in Federal R&D Expenditures. Faculty in the Department regularly receive grant awards from federal agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and National Science Foundation (NSF). UAB UAB attracts over $400 million annually in external research funding and ranks consistently in the top 25 nationally in funding from the National Institutes of Health. UAB has rich resources for both research and clinical training, with faculty and students utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and laboratory facilities. Interactions The Department of Psychology and the various centers and departments at UAB attract scientists in psychology and related disciplines from around the world, providing students with opportunities for interaction with visiting scientists. Students are encouraged to attend Grand Rounds and colloquia presented by various departments, such as Neurology, Psychology, Psychiatry/Behavioral Neurobiology, Physical Medicine/Rehabilitation, and Pediatrics. |
