  • NIH Submission Policy When NIH Offices Are Closed

This notification serves as a reminder of the recently updated NIH submission policies. If you are submitting a grant application this week, take note of guide notice NOT-OD-17-041 – Impact of Washington, DC Area Federal Office Operating Status on NIH Grant Application Due Dates. In response to inclement weather, grant application due dates will now move to the next open business day when the OPM operating status for Federal offices in the Washington, DC area is:
    • Federal offices are closed – Emergency and telework-ready employees must follow their agency’s policies
    • Open - Early departure
    • Immediate departure – Federal offices are closed
    • Shelter-in-place
Although many NIH personnel choose to telework in lieu of taking leave when NIH is "closed" for inclement weather, the level of service may be affected and, as such, due dates were moved. During these closures, email is recommended for communicating with NIH personnel. If contacting the eRA Service Desk, take advantage of Web Ticketing. Please review the policy for handling closures of your own institutions due to weather or other disasters. This policy remains in place and unchanged.
