These mice over produce human B lymphocyte stimulator (BLyS, also known as B-cell activating factor, BAFF) in the circulation.  BLyS/BAFF is a cytokine in the tumor necrosis factor ligand family expressed in B cell lineage cells. It acts as a B cell activator and plays a role in B cell proliferation and differentiation.
