SafeZone Peer Educators
SafeZone Peer Educators are a group of volunteer undergraduate students who provided education and training around issues of gender, sexuality, power and oppression. SafeZone Peer Educators provide a visible network where all UAB undergraduate, graduate and professional students can receive knowledge and ask questions in a welcoming space in order to help make campus a safer, more accepting place for LGBTQ students, staff, faculty and visitors.
Three special sessions are offered to all UAB students: SafeZone 101, Trans 101, and SafeZone 201. Each session is offered twice per semester. Lunch-n-learns and special topics are also offered throughout the year.

SafeZone 101:
This training provides an introduction to gender, sex and sexuality where participants learn basic terminology, campus resources, and what it means to be SafeZone certified.
SafeZone 201:
This training will allow participants to examine their own identities and learn about systemic privilege, oppression, and social justice.
Trans 101:
This general training introduces participants to a more in-depth understanding of Trans identities and issues Trans people face on campus.

SafeZone Faculty/Staff
The SafeZone program for UAB faculty and staff provides training and education on LGBTQ issues both online and through an instructor led class. You must complete both the online and in-person sessions to qualify as SafeZone Certified.
