    The School of Engineering has built a place for you at UAB. Our program reinforces the physical, biological, and mathematical sciences so that students can use those disciplines as a basis to develop new technology and improve existing systems. The departments of the School of Engineering are listed below; in them you will find the tools necessary to design, construct and fortify your future.

    The Engineering Program at UAB UAB School of Engineering offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil, electrical, materials and mechanical engineering, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in biomedical engineering, a joint Ph.D. program in materials and metallurgical engineering, and cooperative Ph.D. programs in civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering.


    Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CCE)

    The design and building of foundations and structures, highways, and bridges, water supply and sanitation works, dams and tunnels, and other life-support systems for the smooth and safe functioning of society. Career opportunities include structural engineering and construction, geotechnical engineering, water resources and environmental engineering, and transportation engineering.


    Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)

    Design and Construction of a variety of electrical systems, such as analog and/or digital computers, biomedical instruments, communication systems, control systems, and power systems. Career opportunities include specific application areas of analog systems, digital systems, power systems, control systems and communication systems.


    Department of Materials and Mechanical Engineering (MME)

    The materials engineering program emphasizes the selection of the best possible material for a particular application based on an understanding of the properties of metals, ceramics, composites and polymers. Career options in materials engineering include materials processing and the development of new high-performance materials critical for advances in high technology areas such as computers and aerospace. The mechanical engineering program emphasizes the conception, planning, designing and directing the manufacture, distribution, and operation of a wide variety of devices, machines, and systems for energy conversion, environmental control, materials processing, materials handling and other purposes. Career opportunities in mechanical engineering include positions in industry, government, educational institutions, and private practice.


    Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME)

    Application of advanced technology and biomaterials to the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Career opportunities are available in a number of public and private research facilities and industries connected to the medical field, as well as positions in hospitals and medical centers.
