Some of our EatRight alumni have been kind enough to share their experiences with you. Here are a few of their stories:

“EatRight is the first plan, out of many weight loss plans that I have tried, that enabled me to lose all the weight that I wished to lose. Not only did I reach and exceed my weight loss goal, I lost 34 pounds, that I set for the first 12 weeks of the program, but I was able to continue to lose. I have maintained the weight loss for almost a year and feel confident that I will never be faced with a weight problem again.”

“I began the EatRight program in June of 2000. At that point I weighed 248. I knew I had to do something soon! Today my weight is 208. I feel great. The EatRight program is just the framework I needed to not only lose weight, but more importantly, keep it off. "

“I have always had a weight problem to some degree. I reached my high water mark in 1992, at 242 pounds. During this time I jogged and walked 2 to 3 miles four or five times a week, so I was not totally sedentary. Unfortunately, I also did not have good eating habits and kept gaining."

“When I reached my high water mark in 1992, I decided to do something. What I did was fast for a week, followed by 6 weeks of liquid dieting. It worked. Within 2 months I was down to 187. It only took me 8 years to gain it all back! If I had known about the EatRight program in 1992, I would have never gained the weight back. Motivation or will power has not been my problem. The lack of a sensible plan has been my downfall."

“An important difference to me in the EatRight program is the emphasis on nutrition education. The classes are taught by instructors with advanced degrees in nutrition and for me to understand the nutritional value of the everyday foods I eat is very beneficial. I had been on the Atkins "Diet" for a period of time, had lost weight (AND gained it back) but was never quire sure how safe this way of eating really was. EatRight is not a diet, and has become a way of life for me. I am much more in control of what I eat now. I can choose pizza or Chinese, but now when I make these choices I am also aware of their nutritional value. I choose mostly fruits and vegetables, because that is what I prefer. We are very fortunate to have the EatRight program in the Birmingham area. I am 51 and have lost 30 pounds to date!”

I also gained it all back plus a lot more. I never kept the weight off more than a few months. I felt like I was a failure."

“I would like to take this opportunity to recommend UAB's EatRight Program and especially Ms. Kathy Hubbert, the instructor. I started the program on July 31, 2000 at a weight of 274 pounds. My weight on March 8, 2001 was 217 - a loss of 57 pounds in a little over seven months. The combination of good nutrition and exercise has been the best weight-loss approach I have ever tried. I had gained back a few pounds over the Thanksgiving-Christmas holidays - an annual occurrence for me. Luckily I was able to get right back on the program in January. I not only lost the holiday gain, but I have continued to progress to this point. In addition to the weight loss, I have lost almost 8" in my waist. Thank you, Kathy! Thank you, EatRight!”
