The Center for Healthcare Management & Leadership has an active and distinguished history of service to health care managers in Alabama, the nation, and the world for almost 50 years. It was established in February, 1966. Its initial continuing education program was the Health Services Administrator’s Development (HSAD) program which ran from 1966 until 1995.

Another major project of the Center has been the National Symposium for Healthcare Executives Symposium conducted each summer for the past 33 years. Beginning in the fall of 1972, theCenter developed and conducted a series of comprehensive seminars and workshops for health related organizations, including hospitals, nursing homes, and physician practices. Faculty have also presented these programs nationally and internationally, including programs in China, Jamaica, Columbia, Costa Rica, and Chile.

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
5 days - 3.50 CEUs 
This seminar, the introductory course in Lean Six Sigma, will give you a thorough understanding of Lean Six Sigma and its focus on eliminating defects through fundatmental process knowledge.  Topics covered in addition to DMAIIC, lean, and Six Sigma philosophy, include basic statistics, value system mapping, statistical process control, waste reduction, process capability, financial implications and root cause analysis.  This seminar is offered in our new Executive Learning Center in the new School of Health Professions building. 

Healthcare Management Professional Development Program
UAB’s Health Services Administration faculty offers a highly specialized curriculum in healthcare management for members of UAB Medicine. This program is for technical and clinical staff promoted into management. Participants are nominated by entity leaders from University Hospital, Highlands, CEH, HSF, TKC and VIVA, clinical chairs and/or executive administrators and the CNO and CIO.   Dr. Will Ferniany, Chief Executive Officer of the UAB Health System and the Executive Cabinet make the final selection of participants. UAB faculty in Health Services Administration in cooperation with senior management of UAB’s Health System develops a highly customized and timely curriculum for honorees in the annual program.
