Glass wall installed in ETFOn Thursday, May 15, 2014, workers finished installing the glass wall in the UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences new Exercise Testing Facility. The glass wall runs along the West hallway of the 2nd floor of the department's headquarters in the Susan Mott Webb Nutrition Sciences Building.
The ETF is Phase One of the Nutrition Sciences: Building a Healthier You campaign. Phase One, at an estimated cost of $90,000 - $110,000, also includees upgrades to the body composition testing areas. These areas include equipment such as a DXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry), a Bod Pod (Whole-Body Air Displacement Plethysmography), a P Pod (Bod Pod for infants and toddlers) and a pQCT (Peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography) which is a small CT scan designed for arms and legs.

You will notice that this is a space like no other. Waterfalls welcome you to an open area with a variety of desks and chairs on wheels to allow people to move, gather and discuss science and ideas. The heart of this area is underneath a lighting system that looks like massive tree leaves.
ETF awaits glass wallThe Department of Nutrition Sciences' Exercise Testing Facility is almost move-in ready.
UAB workers are awaiting the arrival of the large glass walls that will make up the wall along the West hallway in the Susan Mott Webb Nutrition Sciences Building. The estimated installation date for the glass wall is Thursday, May 15, 2014.
ETF sinks, cabinets, storage finishedWorkers have finished the floors, cabinets and sinks in the Department of Nutrition Sciences new Exercise Testing Facility. These were the final steps necessary before bringing in the glass walls that will front the area.
The Exercise Testing Facility, a key component of Phase One of the Nutrition Sciences: Building a Healthier You, is wired and ready. Once it is in service it will house stationary bikes, treadmills and machines measuring oxygen consumption.
The space will also include a changing room, a stretching area, a weight test area and bathroom access for sample collection.
