College is a time for personal development, academic growth, and self-discovery; It's the time of your life!

The School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at UAB offers a variety of divisions so that you may specialize in areas of interest that prepare you for the future. Even if you plan to continue your study beyond a baccalaureate degree, majors in biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics, physics, pre- medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-optometry, and computer and information sciences provide and ideal foundation for your educational and professional pursuits. The departments of The School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics are listed below. Take a few moments to discover your options at UAB.

Department of Biology

Biology is a multifaceted study of life in its diverse forms. Students majoring in biology will experience its most exciting era: fresh approaches and new experimental capabilities are providing new insight into molecular mechanisms of cells. The UAB biology major provides a Molecular Biology track to study how DNA technology unravels the way genes program organisms. Students can also pursue ecological dynamics of marine systems through the Marine Biology concentration, or tailor preparation for a health- related profession or another career by selecting courses from such areas as physiology and development. The Biology Honors Program gives qualified students opportunities to carry out laboratory and field research activities.
