Current Student Research

Timothy Fee, Biomedical Engineering

Tim is attempting to attach a capsule forming protein (Major Vault Protein - MVP) to the surface of an adenovirus for potential use in drug delivery combined with gene therapy.

Mentor: David Curiel, MD, PhD, Department of Medicine, Divison of Human Gene Therapy

Abhishek Haritha, Biology

Abhi is using Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) to observe trace response in the amygdala and parietal lobes in humans. He is observing conditional and unconditional responses to a static shock and tonal cues. The researchers hope to find different activation levels related to these responses.

Mentor: David Knight, PhD, Department of Psychology

Toral Patel, Molecular Biology

Toral is identifying the role of paraxonase (PON-1) activity for mimetic peptide D4-F function. This peptide is in clinical 2 trial for treating cardiovascular disease. She is also studying the mechanism in which environmental enrichment acts upon learning and memory in aged models which could lead to drug and enrichment studies and treatments for patients with Alzheimers disease.
