Maya Bailey commemorates Collegiate Recovery Day on the Green.

You might hear Maya Bailey, one of UAB’s Counselors in Residence, say, “Feelings aren’t facts but it is a fact that you have a feeling.”

On Tuesday, September 5, students will have an opportunity to participate in Blazer’s Let’s Talk. This program is a collaborative effort between Student Counseling Services (SCS) and Student Housing and Residence Life (SHRL) to give all Blazers who live on-campus access to mental health services. These walk in hours are available to all on campus residents Monday through Friday from 4 to 5 p.m.

All meetings take place in Camp Hall room 105, are confidential and are 15-20 minutes long. UAB’s Counselor in Residence staff offer walk-in services, single sessions, grief counseling, and group/couples counseling. Counselors can also help you schedule a follow-up appointment with SCS and even offer referrals.

“I always wanted to be the person I needed when I was younger. I have felt isolated, discouraged, and hopeless so many times in the past, and my goal to help lead others from darkness to light.” Maya is a UAB alum, receiving her B.S. in psychology before continuing her studies at the University of Alabama and obtaining her M.A. in clinical mental health counseling.
