Wellness Promotion hosts Domestic Violence Awareness Month eventsWellness Promotion is collaborating with the ladies of Sigma Sigma Rho, Sorority Inc. to launch a Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) campaign during the week of Oct. 9 – 13. DVAM 2017 consists of a week of events to raise awareness and education among UAB students about dating and domestic violence. The week will feature several events to support the overall theme “Shine a light on dating and domestic violence”, finishing up with the support of the UAB Football team wearing purple ribbon decals on their helmets for their home game against Middle Tennessee State University on Saturday, Oct. 14.

DVAM 2017 Schedule:

  • Mon. | Hill Student Center | 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
    “DVAM Awareness Day” – Come by the Health Hut to learn about domestic violence and enjoy an Insomnia Cookie.
  • Tues. | Heritage Hall Building 102 | 7:30 p.m.
    “Love is Tinder” – A healthy relationship workshop that will focus on the world of dating apps and hook up culture.
  • Wed. | Commons Plaza | 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
    “Sigma Sigma Rho Philanthropy Day/Toiletry Drive” – Donate toiletries to the women and children of the YWCA.
  • Thur. | New Freshman Residence Hall Underground | Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
    “DVAM Trivia Night” – Trivia focused on healthy relationships and domestic violence facts and stats.
  • Fri. | Commons Plaza | 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
    “That Don’t Fly (DVAM Edition) – Sign our pledge against dating and domestic violence and receive a free That Don’t Fly T-shirt.
  • Sat. | Legion Field | 5:30 p.m.
    “That Don’t Fly (DVAM Edition) – Support the Blazers as they support DVAM with purple ribbon decals on their helmets.
