Valentine's Day speed dating with community service projects
Valentine's Day is all about love. But what about about love for your community and the people in it?
Stop by the Edge of Chaos on the 4th floor of Lister Hill Libarary this Feb. 14 from noon-1 p.m. to hear about several community projects that need your help.
And since it's Valentine's Day, it's going to be speed-dating style! Birmingham nonprofits will pitch their most interesting and challenging projects in 5 minutes or less to groups of rotating UAB faculty and students.
The Campus-Community Speed Matching program will include bite-sized presentations from 13 different nonprofit organizations. Find one whose mission resonates with you, and get involved (then when you're out at dinner with your valentine, they'll be impressed by your activism):
Alabama Poverty Project: Woodlawn College Coaches
Birmingham AIDS Outreach: Social Media Strategy
Birmingham Education Foundation: Marketing Plan to Promote College Exploration
Birmingham Museum of Art: Young Speakers Bureau
Black Warrior Riverkeeper: Data Mapping Project
Camp Fire: Idea Share
Freshwater Land Trust: A Vision for Village Creek
Impact Alabama: Mentors for CollegeFirst
Magic Moments: Rebranding and Public Outreach Plan
One Roof: Health Care Access and Outreach
Preschool Partners: Program Impact Surveys
United Way of Central Alabama: Menu Revamp
The event is free and open to all. If you reserve a space early, you can even have lunch beforehand at 11:30 (lunch spots are by reservation only). More information can be found at UAB Service Learning.
