UAB canceling classes due to severe weather threat

UAB classes and normal campus operations will be suspended for the day as of 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 11 due to the risk of severe weather. UAB Medicine will operate normally for patients.

All dining locations other than The Commons on the Green and The Diner will close at 2 p.m. with the University. The Commons and Diner plan to run normal hours. However, if the weather continues to get worse past 8 p.m., UAB Campus Restaurants will make a judgment call on closing The Diner for the safety of their staff.

The Campus Recreation Center will close at 2 p.m. and re-open from 7-11 p.m.

The Hill University Center will close for the day at 2 p.m.

Students, faculty, and staff were notified of the campus closing via UAB's B-ALERT system. If you are not currently signed up for B-ALERT, you can do so here.

As with any severe weather situation, safety should be your primary concern.  Here are some severe weather precautions for thunderstorms, lightning, and tornadoes (both watches and warnings).
