The event, which will feature even more activities in its second year, will again take place on an outdoor basketball court. The court will be housed in the Lot 15A parking lot on UAB's campus in front of the Bell and Ullman buildings. This lot is located just north of University Boulevard between 12th Street South and 13th Street South. This lot will be closed from the Thursday evening before the event to the Saturday morning afterward.

Hoops on the Haasephalt will feature activities for all ages, including a Kids' Zone with inflatables, games and prizes for students as well as autograph sessions with the UAB Men's and Women's Basketball teams. These two teams will also compete against UAB Men's Soccer and UAB Softball in a dance competition choreographed by the UAB Golden Girls later in the evening.

The first 500 students with a valid student I.D. will receive free food from Full Moon BBQ, courtesy of UAB Basketball and UAB Gang Green. Food trucks from Full Moon and Cantina Tortilla Grill will be on site selling food to the general public. The UAB Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will also host a canned food drive and encourages fans to bring cans to donate.

All the action will begin at 6 p.m. on October 4 with the pre-event that will include youth-league basketball games, a wheelchair basketball exhibition from the Lakeshore Foundation's USA Women's Wheelchair Basketball Team and flatland BMX artist, Terry Adams.

The main event will get under way at 7 p.m. and will feature a half-court shot for $5,000 in tuition money for one lucky UAB student as well as a 3-point competition and dunk contest judged by guest judges including Steve Mitchell, George "Snoozy" Jones and Harlan Sands. Coach Haase will also make a grand entrance to the main event and will introduce the 2013-14 UAB Men's Basketball team. Haase will be joined by first-year UAB Women's Basketball Head Coach Randy Norton, who will also introduce his squad.

Admission to Hoops on the Haasephalt is FREE and open to the public, and fans are invited to watch the assembly of the full-sized, regulation court, which will begin on the morning of the event.
