'The Butler' to screen at UAB

Lee Daniel's The Butler - One Quiet Voice Can Ignite a RevolutionThe Butler will be shown Sunday, February 16 at 4 p.m. in Heritage Hall, room 102. Admission is free.

Though the screening was originally planned as a prelude to a lecture by director Lee Daniels, you can still watch the movie, despite Daniels' cancellation (ESPN's Stephen A. Smith will appear instead on Feb. 26).

The film stars Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker as Cecil Gaines, a butler who serves under eight presidents at the White House. His character, though technically fictional, is based on the real-life story of Eugene Allan.

Beyond Whitaker, the movie features an all-star cast, including: Mariah Carey, Oprah Winfrey, Terrence Howard, Vanessa Redgrave, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Lenny Kravitz, Robin Williams, James Marsden, Liev Schreiber, John Cusack, Alan Rickman, and Jane Fonda.

The event is sponsored by the Student Activities Council.
