Where to eat during MLK weekend
UAB will be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and UAB Dining options will be limited throughout the weekend.
Saturday through Monday all campus restaurants, with the exception of The Diner, will be closed. Saturday and Sunday The Diner will be open from noon-7 p.m., and Monday The Diner will be open from 2-10 p.m.
If you're looking for someplace else to eat this weekend, you might want to turn your attention to the Travel Channel's Andrew Zimmern, who hosts the show "Bizarre Foods." Zimmern has been in Birmingham for several days.
According to AL.com, "Birmingham's 'great and vibrant food scene, great stories and great characters' is what brought him here, he said, and he has not been disappointed."
Scan Zimmern's Twitter feed, and you'll see that the food guru has been sampling chow around Birmingham from Niki's West, Miss Myra's, Red Pearl, Eagle's Restaurant, The Fish Market, Jim 'N Nick's, Hot and Hot Fish Club, the Shindigs food truck, and more. He's had good things to say everywhere he's gone, and he's been posting plenty of food photos on his Instagram feed.
So consider trying out one of the spots Zimmern has endorsed. Or venture out on your own and discover what other great food Birmingham has to offer.
