Each year, SMDP new and returning Student Leaders attend a four day social justice retreat. This retreat prepares them to fulfill their roles as inclusive and empowered change agents on campus and helps them to build community with one another for the year ahead.
This multifaceted excursion is both educational and fun. Our students spend time delving into complex systems of privilege and oppression, discovering who they are as leaders, mentors, and educators, and creating lasting relationships with their peers. Not to mention, there is tie-dying, kayaking, hiking, and other sports.
This retreat sets a tone for the amazing work student leaders do throughout the academic year and propels our office forward in creating an inclusive, welcoming campus.
