Mission and Demographics
The Alabama Transplant
Center has established an
infrastructure for the transplant teams of the University of Alabama Medical
Center. It supports and facilitates the
organ transplant programs so that clinical transplantation is provided to
patients in Alabama
and the Southeast in quantity and quality that is considered to be the best in
the country. The Alabama Transplant
Center has developed a
full complement of basic and clinical research and training programs, which
maximizes the utilization of the wealth of patient information and material
available through the existing UAB program.
The Center currently has 24 appointed faculty representing 3 departments
and 1 school at UAB.
Center Research
The Alabama Transplant Center
conducts specialized clinical and surgical research focusing on specific
disease processes related to transplantation.
The major clinical impact of research conducted in the Center has been
related to the development of transplantation tolerance.
Training
The Alabama Transplant Center
presents an annual Transplant Forum and also supports presentations by speakers
outside the system at times throughout the year.
