The mission of the Office for Undergraduate Research (OUR) is to advance student learning through research. We strive to fulfill this mission by providing the following:

  • a searchable database of undergraduate research opportunities that match student interests to faculty research
  • a connection between faculty and students interested in undergraduate research
  • outlets and opportunities for communicating results of student research
  • the promotion of undergraduate research to internal and external audiences
  • the coordination of central support for undergraduate research

Tomader Ali, Ph.D. - Tomader has joined the UAB Office of Undergraduate Research. Tomader, who recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship with the Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology, is pursuing research in the field of diabetes and she is active in the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning. She holds a Bachelor of Science Honors degree in Pharmacology, a Master of Research degree in Pharmaceutical and Biomolecular sciences and a Doctorate in Cell and Molecular Biology.

Sara E. Robicheaux - Sara is a senior neuroscience major and fast-track MPH student who works in the lab of Dr. Merida Grant and is interested in the effect of coping mechanisms of the stress response in individuals with and without a history of early life trauma. Other interests include health behavior modification. Upon graduation this spring, Sara will be continuing to pursue her MPH while also applying to medical school for 2016. Please contact Sara if you are interested in Public Health research.

Sofia Marie A Canlas - Sofia is a freshman pursuing a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Criminal Justice. She is also part of the UAB Honors College and a member of the UAB Criminal Justice Student Organization. She works as the Student Peer Support Liaison for the Office of Undergraduate Research, representing the OUR in local events and relays information about training and research activities offered through OUR. Her goal is to have a M.S. in Forensic Science.

Marie Michenkova - Marie is an international student, who came from the Czech Republic, Europe, to attend UAB. She is currently a freshman, majoring in Neuroscience. Marie is involved in the Science and Technology Honors program, as well as in Undergraduate Neuroscience Program. She's also working in the pain-related behavioral study with Dr. Burel Goodin and Dr. Bradley. Marie absolutely loves UAB and wants to attend UAB Medical School.

Kuheli Mitra - Kuheli is a freshman Biomedical Science major on the Pre-Med track. She maintains her all-around involvement by being member in both the Alabama Student Rural Health Association (ASRHA) and American Medical Student Association (AMSA). She is also part of the UAB Honors College and plans to pursue her goal of being in the pediatrics field.
