Contact me if you are interested in clinical or health related research. I will provide you the with the tools you need in order to properly acquire a research position and guide you in finding a lab that best suits your interest.

Lab Experience: I knew that I needed the experience of a lab setting; however, I did not know how or where to begin. The lack of experience I had forced me to think that I was not prepared. Experience is not something that is not gained overnight; it takes a lot of time. Having little to no experience in research should not stop you from finding a potential position. I was able to begin my search with the help of The Undergraduate Research Ambassadors by being introduced to many research options, and I was given the option to shadow various labs in order to find the right fit for me. This past summer I received an opportunity to work with Dr. Christianne Strang. She is a research instructor who is a part of the Psychology Department here at UAB. The research conducted involves the interplay of psychology and biology. Currently, we are working on a project that requires isolating the retinas from transgenic mice. These retinas are being used to analyze the function of acetylcholine in the receptors of the retina. The purpose behind this research is to discover earlier symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. An obstruction in vision may be a symptom that is present in the earlier stages of Alzheimer’s, and with this newfound research we will be able to detect the disease earlier than ever before.

Applying as a Research Ambassador: Applying as a research ambassador is simple. I was actually asked to apply based on my history with the Undergraduate Research Ambassador program. I applied online through Bsync by filling out some questions about myself and discussing how I could benefit this program.

Fun Facts: I am into photography (I won a photography competition in 2015). I also love competing in volleyball and basketball.

Advice: Participating in research is a wonderful opportunity that exposes you to new ideas and different ways of thinking. It is important to realize that once you acquire a position in a research lab you need to be willing to give everything you possibly can in order to make the most out of your experience. Many doors can and will be opened due to research that is conducted every single day. It is crucial that you come into research with an open mind and understand that the research you are conducting is only benefiting your career in more ways than you can even imagine.
