The Qualifying Exam Print E-mail
  • The requirements for the qualifying exam were changed during the 07-08 academic year.  Students are required to take 4 exams out of the 6 core modules.  However, students who make an “A” in four of the core modules and do not have less than an “B” in the other two modules may be exempt from taking a qualifying exam.  If the student makes less than four “A”s the student may be exempt from one exam for each “A” was earned, provided that a “B” was earned on each of the other classes.  A student who must take an exam, may not take the exam in the core class for which they earned the “A”.
  • Students taking an exam must pass according to the Core Module Director’s approval.  Should the student not pass, but faculty feel remediation is acceptable, the student will be required to produce additional work to earn a passing grade.  If a pass is not earned after the additional course work for remediation, or after the initial test, a student will be required to take an oral exam in front of the Examination Committee (six Core Module Directors).  The student must pass the oral examination.
  • The failure of any student to perform to the Examining Committee’s satisfaction in two of the four exams may be cause for dismissal of the student from the program.
