    The UAB Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will host its annual Suits 4 Success drive to benefit My Sister's Closet, an outreach program of the YWCA of Central Alabama, Monday-Friday, Sept. 13-17.

    The Commission on the Status of Women is hosting three open forums April 6-8 to solicit ideas for creating the best possible experiences from women who work and study at UAB. Join in the informal conversations at one of these times and locations: 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, April 6 in WPCC Board Room; 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, April 7 in Education Building Room 230; and 7:30 a.m.-9 a.m. Thursday, April 8 in Bartow Arena Green & Gold Room.   • CSW seeks input on women’s issues

    The Commission on the Status of Women is planning to host Open Forums in April and encourages university employees and students to compete the short survey to assist in planning these small group discussions. The survey is online at www.surveymonkey.com/s/cswopenforums .
  • UAB collecting "Suits 4 Success" Jan. 12-16

    The UAB Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will start the new year by sponsoring its third “Suits 4 Success” clothing drive Monday-Friday, January 12-16, 2009. Collected items will be donated to My Sister’s Closet, an outreach program of the YWCA of Central Alabama.
  • Visit the Brand New CSW Lactation Center

    The UAB Commission on the Status of Women is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Shelby Building Lactation Center, located at the rear of the first floor women's restroom. This lactation center is the first on campus, located outside of the hospital, that is open to all university faculty, staff and students. Two more sites are planned for the Hill University Center and Sterne Library which will open in the future.
  • CSW and ADVANCE Co-host Faculty Lunch and Learn April 25

    Please join the UAB Commission on the Status of Women and UAB ADVANCE for a Lunch and Learn on Friday, April 25. This session on “Balancing Work and Family” will feature Dr. Madelyn Coar and Ms. Anita Clemon and will provide faculty an opportunity to hear information related to the Family Medical Leave of Absence policy and the proposed Family Friendly Policies for Faculty Members, including the proposed tenure clock extension and part-time tenure track. The seminar will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 25, in the Hill University Center Board Room (Room 325), and lunch will be provided. Seating is limited to 35, and reservations are essential. To register, please contact Cassandra Walker by Friday, April 11, at walkerc@uab.edu .
  • Suits 4 Success Drive in November

    The Commission on the Status of Women in conjunction with the Birmingham YWCA is carrying out another "Suits 4 Success" clothing drive this fall. Clothing donations will be given to My Sister's Closet. We are looking for clean "lightly worn" clothing - suits, dresses, pants, jackets, and shoes. Accessories such as scarves, jewelry, and purses are welcome as well. The dates for the drive are November 12 -16; the drop off location will be the Whitaker Building, 500 22nd Street South from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. There will be drop boxes in a number of buildings as well. 2nd Annual Suits for Success Brochure (PDF)
  • Ticket winners announced

    Five women were winners in the CSW ticket giveaway. Each winner received four tickets to the 2007 Southern Women’s Show, Oct. 4-7.
