Introduction

This project is the result of a regional partnership involving organizations committed to increasing the availability of quality housing for low-income residents. Please visit other areas of the site and learn more about The Woodlawn Housing Initiative, view the data we have collected, learn about different facets of the initiative and the Woodlawn and South Woodlawn neighborhoods, and visit the websites of our partners.

and viability of the housing stock.

Woodlawn Housing Initiative Partners

The Woodlawn Housing Initiative involves a partnership of local not-for-profit agencies, universities, churches, and the Woodlawn Community, and was initially underwritten by the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham with a grant to Region 2020, a local visioning agency that organized and coordinates the current effort to revitalize the area. The Woodlawn Housing Initiative was initially spawned by Habitat for Humanity’s “21st Century Challenge”, a charge to eliminate substandard housing in urban neighborhoods, and neighborhood residents concerned about the welfare of their community.
