Dr. M. Janice Gilliland  is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and Executive Assistant to the Director at the Center for the Advancement of Youth Health and the Comprehensive Youth Violence Center. Her research experience has included work with several different minority groups, adolescents, and rural and urban populations in a variety of setting from hospitals to Indian reservations. Her current research interests are in obesity, physical fitness, childhood growth and development, and other child health issues. Dr. Gilliland has served on several multi-center longitudinal intervention or epidemiological studies. She currently is involved with three longitudinal studies examining child and adolescent nutrition, physical activity, violence, mental health, injurious behaviors, sexual behaviors, and development across the lifespan. Dr. Gilliland has published in the areas of cardiovascular and other chronic diseases, growth and development of adolescents, Native American and women’s health issues, and care-seeking behaviors.
