Pam Benoit & Lori McMahon

-Pam Benoit, Ph.D., an Indiana native, is UAB's provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. She has served at UAB since 2017. For more than 25 years, Benoit has taught courses on topics such as persuasive speaking, interpersonal communication, and communication theory at Miami University (Ohio), Bowling Green State University, the University of Missouri, and Ohio University. Her husband, William Benoit, Ph.D., is a professor in the UAB Department of Communication Studies.
Lori McMahon, Ph.D., is dean of the UAB Graduate School and the Jarman F. Lowder Professor of Neuroscience in the Department of Cell, Developmental, and Integrative Biology. She received her bachelor's degree in biology/chemistry from Southern Illinois University and her Ph.D. from St. Louis University Health Sciences Center in St. Louis, Missouri. After postdoctoral training in neurobiology at Duke University Medical Center, McMahon joined UAB's faculty in 1998 as assistant professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. She also has served as director of UAB's Comprehensive Neuroscience Center.
