Every year, the Alliance gives a $1,000 Scholarship to UAB students who are involved with the community. UAB students can access the scholarship application at UAB's BSMART and logging in. Students can also access the scholarship by going to BlazerNet, then to Student Profile, and clicking on Scholarships at the bottom of the right-hand column.
The deadline for submission of the complete materials is February 1st, 2020.
All applicants are evaluated on the totality of the student's situation, academic achievement, financial need, demonstrated service to the LGBTQ community, demonstrated leadership skills, and present and future goals. Preference is given to applicants who can demonstrate service to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LBGTQ) community.
Donating to the Scholarship
By making your tax-deductible contribution to this scholarship fund, you will both be opening up opportunities to deserving students and contributing to the future leaders of the LGBT community.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Any donation you give is exempt from federal and state income taxes to the extent permitted by law.
Contributions may be made by:
- Check, one time only, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually;
- Via credit card, one time only, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually;
- Through the transfer of stocks or securities; or
- Through payroll deduction.
Ways to Donate
Endowment Fund
You can donate to the Endowment Fund. This is the default account. All gifts to this account are added to the endowment principal, with earnings on this principal used to support awards.
Spendable Earnings Account
You can donate to the Spendable Earnings Account. All gifts to this account are immediately available to be spent on scholarships but do not earn any interest for the account. You can also check a box on the donation form to select this account.
Scholarship Contribution Form
You can also download Scholarship Contribution Form to mail in your donation or pledge.
Legacy Society
Members are those individuals who have listed The Alliance's Scholarship in their will with a gift of $10,000 or more.

Scholarship Fund History
On March 1, 2010, The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) formally approved The Alliance's establishing a sponsored scholarship for deserving students who are enrolled at UAB. In June, 2011, donations to the fund exceeded the $10,000 mark necessary to become endowed. Our Scholarship Account balance is now approaching the $35,000 mark.
