The DEI Ambassador Certificate is a professional development that is available for UAB employees and organizations seeking diversity education for their personnel. What is the shelf life of each Diversity Education course?
Two Years. The Diversity Ambassador certificate should be completely within two years. If not, the oldest course will be removed from the record and the employee will need to take a refresher on that course.

Are any of the Diversity Education courses available asynchronously?
The Awareness at UAB video is the only asynchronous course material that is available. The Awareness at UAB video is available in Campus LMS.

Does ODEI provide diversity education to audiences outside of UAB?
Yes. We provide diversity education to organizations outside of UAB for a fee. All revenue generated from Diversity Education goes towards our First-Generation Scholarship fund.

How can participate in the Diversity Education courses?
Registration is required through Campus LMS.
Registration helps us assess interest in the Diversity Education curriculum and to apply individual credit for the course. You will not receive a confirmation email from Campus LMS. The course Zoom link will be emailed 15 minutes before the course begins. -

What is a DEI Ambassador?
Someone that has completed the four courses Building Blocks Learning Plan: Cultural Awareness Building Blocks, Unconscious Bias, Bystander Intervention, and Safe Zone. They are champions of diversity, equity, and inclusion within their respective departments or units with UAB.

Diversity Facilitation Training

How do I become a diversity education facilitator?
Diversity Education facilitators are individuals that have been designated as a Diversity Ambassador and has completed Diversity Education Facilitators Training (DEFT).
DEFT includes the following:
- Participating in the DEFT sessions
- Shadowing courses facilitated by the Diversity Education Director
- Co-facilitate a course with an existing facilitator until they are comfortable and ready to facilitate independently

When are Diversity Education Facilitator Trainings held?
Infrequently. Diversity Education Facilitator training is offered on an as needed basis. Information regarding DEFT will be communicated only to current Diversity Ambassadors.

Are diversity education facilitators paid?
No. Diversity Education facilitators serve on a volunteer basis and as their schedule permits.

What are the requirements for education facilitators?
Facilitators are expected to facilitate at least two courses a semester and demonstrate an awareness of current issues in the DEI landscape.

How long are diversity education courses?
Most Diversity Education courses are 90 minutes in length with the exception of Safe Zone and the Inclusive Language course that are 120 minutes.

Are diversity education courses on nights and weekends?
Yes, Diversity Education courses are offered at an array of times throughout the day. Weekend courses are atypical but can be accommodated upon request and at the discretion of the Diversity Education Director.

Course certificates are located in Campus LMS under “My Courses and Assignments”. You can also review your all course completions in the Learning Locker.

If I am a unit leader, can I access course completions for my entire staff?

Can I act as a proxy for someone and register them for a course in Campus LMS?
No. In order to register for a course you must sign into Campus LMS with your Blazer ID and password.

I registered for a course in Campus LMS, but I have not received the Zoom Link. What do I do?
The zoom link for the session is only available 15 minutes prior to the start of the course via Campus LMS.
