Engagement Opportunities

Even if you’re not a member of the Commission on the Status of Women, you can get involved and have an impact.

  • BlazerPulse: Look for volunteer opportunities — particularly with the Suits for Success drive — on our BlazerPulse page.
  • Leadercast Women: Join us for the Leadercast Women conference. Leadercast Women is an annual one-day conference in which women leaders share their insights, experiences, and revelations on leadership. The conference is simulcast online, so you can learn from outstanding leaders while here on campus, networking with fellow UAB women. The 2019 event is scheduled for Oct. 18. Check back for more information about how to register, or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to let us know you are interested.
  • Survey: The UAB Commission on the Status of Women’s goal is to ensure the University serves the needs of women faculty, staff and students by advocating for inclusiveness and equitable opportunities for all. To do so, we would like to know the topics or issues being faced by women on campus you would like to see addressed by the Commission. We kindly ask that all faculty, staff, and students fill out this brief survey to help identify the issues you are interested in — such as career development opportunities, promotion and tenure processes, paid parental leave or pay equity studies — to help guide the Commission’s work in the coming months and years. Providing your opinions on this anonymous survey will greatly assist the Commission as we look to the future. Thank you for your feedback!

Give Opportunities

The UAB Commission on the Status of Women offers a number of ways to give back to the UAB community and beyond.

  • EmpowerHER Education: The goal of the EmpowerHER Education Endowment is to equip women with the financial support to help effect positive change in themselves, their communities and the world. With your gift, you join the CSW’s initiative to provide an annual award to UAB women students, faculty and staff pursuing professional development at conferences, meetings, workshops, and other professional endeavors.
  • YWCA My Sister's Closet: CSW’s Suits for Success drive gives campus and the community an opportunity to donate gently used work-appropriate clothing to the YWCA’s My Sister’s Closet, which provides clothing for women interviewing for or holding jobs. The drive is held annually every spring.
  • UAB Career Closet: The Career Closet houses a variety of clothing that students can use for interviews, career fairs, and other business and job-related purposes. UAB students who need professional attire for professional interviews or events may borrow items such as button-down shirts, blouses, blazers, pants, skirts, ties, and suits, from the UAB Career Closet for free.
