Update on 2021 Suits for Success spring event

Due to the pandemic, the UAB Commission on the Status of Women will not hold their annual Suits for Success Drive this Spring (2021). Suits for Success is an annual clothing drive benefiting the YWCA’s My Sister’s Closet that aims to help women on their journey toward building their career and a better life. The CSW looks forward to resuming the annual clothing drive in the next school year.

Need to get a jump on your spring-cleaning? Join the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in outfitting women for success by donating work-appropriate attire for women during their 14th annual Suits for Success clothing drive.

The mission of the CSW is to ensure UAB serves the needs of women faculty, staff and students by examining and advocating for inclusiveness and equitable opportunities for all. The CSW has a long-standing partnership with My Sister’s Closet, an outreach program of the YWCA, to provide clothes for women interviewing for or holding jobs. In addition, local moving and storage companies and department stores have donated boxes and supplies. The first year of the “Suits for Success," drive approximately one ton of clothing and accessories were collected from the Birmingham region, and steady increases have been seen since; annual collections from 2009-2018 ranged from 2 - 3 tons.
