UAB - Digital Media - CAREY CAUTHEN

Carey Cauthen holding a paper parasol.

Carey works with faculty, administration, and students to design, create, and administer websites for UAB. Her central focus in building a site is knowing your audience — prospective undergraduates? prospective graduates? parents? peers? — and crafting and organizing information focused on that audience's needs and expectations. She spearheaded the redesign of the College of Arts and Sciences website and many of its departments and programs, and is the main web point-of-contact for many CAS entities.

A Birmingham native, she attended American University in Washington DC, where she majored in history and minored in communications. She spent many years in the publishing industry (writing, editing, and production) in the nation's capitol, then moved to Auburn, AL, to become the editor of The Alabama Review, the state's history journal. She joined the Digital Media team at UAB in 2012. Her education and work history reflects her love of clear writing, well-structured information, and the correct placement of commas.

Carey is a science fiction and fantasy buff, has a slight addiction to Marvel superhero movies and Star Wars, and enjoys spoiling her cat Trillian. She thinks having a dragon for a mascot is pretty cool.
