How to Get Help

If you're a student or an employee of UAB or UAB Medicine who has been especially hurt by the coronavirus pandemic, know that you're not alone. At UAB, we take care of one another, because we're all in this together. Here are some ways you can seek help.

Emergency Financial Assistance

Are you in financial need? Currently enrolled students—including undergraduate, graduate, and professional students—who need emergency aid due to unexpected expenses caused by the ongoing COVID-19 situation are eligible to apply for assistance from the Student COVID-19 Emergency Fund. Unexpected expenses caused by the COVID-19 situation include but are not limited to:

  • education expenses (e.g., replacement books, educational supplies, costs for shipping books);
  • family expenses (e.g., child-care needs);
  • financial loss associated with emergency (e.g., lost employment or wages);
  • living expenses (e.g., inability to pay rent or utilities due to lost wages);
  • medical expenses (e.g., testing/treatment costs, costs for shipping medications);
  • transportation expenses;
  • other unexpected expenses

To apply, submit the COVID-19 Emergency Grant application through this online form. The submission must include documentation supporting the need for emergency aid, such as a bill, letter of delinquency, invoice, or bank statement. Grant amounts are decided on a case-by-case basis with a maximum amount of $500. Funds are distributed using wire/direct deposit to an account provided by the student.
