Personal Protective Equipment Donations

The response to the internal request for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supplies has been tremendous, and we thank you. However, we are being overwhelmed by the number of emails coming into the Logistics email. At this time, instead of emailing through the Logistics email or reaching out to Supply Chain or Command Center staff directly, please follow these guidelines:

Do not email us with potential external PPE leads. Please know that our Supply Chain staff are experts and are continually searching for sources of legitimate PPE. If you have a lead, please complete this form created by UAB Medicine, and your submission will be reviewed by Supply Chain staff.

If your submission for a PPE donation is approved by UAB’s Supply Chain team, it can then be delivered to the UAB collection site, 801 Fifth Ave. South, Birmingham, AL 35233. The site is open on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is a receiving tent waiting for drop-offs. We are accepting donations of the following items that are commercially manufactured, new, and unopened:

face shields

PPE Prototypes

Community members or commercial vendors who create a prototype of a particular PPE item like a face shield are asked to create one item for review. These also can be submitted through the UAB Medicine form. We will review the prototype to see if it meets our specifications before you continue making more products.

Homemade Masks and Other Items

At this time, UAB has not and does not intend to accept homemade masks and items. Verifying that those products are sterile and/or meet specific hygiene/usage standards is extremely difficult. Commercial businesses must follow specific production protocols that make those items appropriately rated for use in health care settings. If you have donations of homemade masks and other items, please take them to the Christian Service Mission Warehouse, 3600 3rd Avenue S, Birmingham, AL  35222, Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m.–noon. If you have questions regarding donations, you may call the Jefferson County Department of Public Health Coordination Center at 205-254-2550 from Monday–Friday from 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
