Crowdfunding is the practice of sourcing contributions from a large number of people to provide funding for a particular project or campaign, usually via the internet. Check out our current campaigns here

Why the word FIRE?

We chose FIRE for multiple reasons. As home to the UAB Blazers, the word fits perfectly – but better yet – FIRE stands for Fueling Innovation, Research, and Education. At UAB, we are at the forefront of cutting-edge innovation, research, and education.

How does FIRE work?

FIRE allows the university’s faculty, staff, students, and friends to create and share approved fundraising/crowdfunding campaigns with an engaged community. The platform provides a portal to empower the entire community to come together and create lasting impacts on meaningful projects.

Campaign Creator Questions

Who can start a campaign on FIRE?

UAB faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents, and friends can apply to create a fundraising/crowdfunding campaign on the platform for any type of project looking to raise funds that will directly impact UAB.

I have an idea for a crowdfunding campaign. How do I start?

To start a crowdfunding campaign, we ask that you complete the application found here. After submitting your application, one of our staff members will contact you within 5 to 7 business days regarding your campaign.

My campaign idea has been approved. What’s next?

Once your application has been approved, please login here to develop and manage your campaign.

Donor Questions

How do I make a gift to a campaign on FIRE?

Find the campaign page for the project that you would like to support here and click “Make a Gift” on the project’s campaign page. You will be asked to enter your contribution amount and then you will proceed through the payment process. You can also help spread the word about the campaign by sharing with your friends and family through email and social media.

Where does my gift go?

All gifts to UAB FIRE crowdfunding campaigns are directed to the fund indicated on the online giving form.

What if the campaign I supported does not reach its fundraising goal?

All funds raised will be applied to the stated fundraising purpose. If a campaign becomes impractical or impossible to implement, funds will be used in the spirit of the original purpose of the project.

Is my gift tax-deductible? Will I receive a receipt for my gift?

Yes, UAB qualifies as a 501(c)3 organization, so all philanthropic donations to the university are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You will receive a receipt for your donation shortly after you make your gift.

Can I make an anonymous gift?

Yes, when entering your gift and contact information you can choose to remain anonymous.
