National First-Generation College Celebration Day
On November 8, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Higher Education Act of 1965 focused on increasing postsecondary access and success for students, particularly for low-income, first-generation college students, including the Federal TRIO Programs and the Federal Pell Grant Program.
In 2021, Senator Raphael Warnock from Georgia introduced a bipartisan resolution in support to designate November 8 as First-Generation College Celebration Day. The resolution passed on November 30, 2021.
UAB wants to add to the tradition of celebration First Blazers
In solidarity with the many number of universities around the nation, UAB joins in the National First-generation College Celebration Day of November 8, 2022.
