Breakthroughs are the inspiration for the arts and the spark that fuels our creativity. UAB supports the arts through a variety of venues including the Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center, WBHM, and the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts scheduled to open in 2013. The Alys Stephens Center is one of the Southeast’s premier performing arts centers, hosting the best in international, national, and local performance. Home to the UAB departments of theatre and music and the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, the ASC also presents its own season, bringing the world’s best music, dance, theater, comedy, and family entertainment to Alabama. UAB is the licensee for WBHM, the National Public Radio station in Birmingham.The Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts will complete UAB's vision for the arts, joining the Alys Stephens Center to create a comprehensive arts complex. The Institute's impact on the quality of arts education at UAB and the quality of life in the community will be immense; the opportunities to inspire people of all ages and all backgrounds unlimited
