We’ll kick off the week with the Mentoring Academy - a joint event for faculty and students. We’ll start the day in two separate groups – faculty in the Edge of Chaos and trainees on the first floor of Lister Hill Library. Refreshments will be served in each area at 8 a.m., and the respective sessions will begin at 8:30. At noon, the groups will combine for lunch in the Edge of Chaos, which will be followed by a panel discussion on tenure and promotion. Registration will be required for this event. More information coming soon.

Tuesday, April 4

Graduate School and faculty will be handing out breakfast to graduate students from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at to-be-announced campus locations, so come hungry!

At noon, Theater Delta is set to perform their interactive theater piece on mentorship in the Edge of Chaos.

Wednesday, April 5

What better way to celebrate both Graduate Student Appreciation Week and Mentoring Week than eating barbecue and dunking UAB faculty? Join us in the BBRB courtyard from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for our annual graduate student and faculty barbecue. Plus, get a chance to dunk UAB faculty members while benefitting a local charity – a win-win! (The lucky dunkees have not yet been identified.)

Thursday, April 6

Jabbar R. Bennett, Ph.D., Associate Provost and Chief Diversity Officer at Northwestern University, will deliver a keynote address on mentorship at noon in the Edge of Chaos. Lunch will be provided.

The awards ceremony for the recipients of the 2017 UAB Graduate Dean’s Excellence in Mentorship Awards will follow in the Edge of Chaos at 2 p.m.

Friday, April 7

The Graduate Student Government (GSG) is planning an off-campus social. We’ll share more details with all graduate students when they are available.

When we have finalized all the details for this week full of exciting events, the Graduate School will share that information with all graduate students and faculty via email as well as on our website and social media accounts (follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).
